OFFICIALS WELCOMED

Y.W.C.A. GATHERING

A very pleasant aud cordial social took place 1 at tho Y.W.C.A. last night, when-a welcome was extended to Miss Macdonald (General Socertary), and Miss Cole- (Girls' Department Secretary), who are just taking up work with tho Wellington Association. The largo hall was arranged drawing-room fashion with carpet and easy chairs, tall stands of -bamboo, and bowls of hydrangeas, the effect being very artistic and charming. Some beautiful dahlias arranged on stands were much admired. ;

Mrs. Pearson (president), in welcoming Miss Macdonald to the association, said they had been in difficulties and had sent out an appeal, which had been answered by ( Miss Macdonald, from Sydney. ' She trusted that every possible help and support would be given to Miss Macdonald by the Wellington Association. Mrs, Pearson added a special welcome to Miss Cole, aud said that her arrival has been anticipated with a great deal of intejest and pleasure, and she wished her a long and successful connection with the department.

Mrs. David Smith (president of the National Board), Lady Luke, Miss A. Kane, and Mrs. Strong all added words of welcome, and expressed pleasure at the arrival of the two ladies.

Misa M'Kegg and Miss Batt, who have recently joined the staff of the Wellington Association, were also cordially received.

Miss Macdoriald, in thanking all for their kindly welcome, said that although she had been very happy in Sydney, she was glad to return to her native country, and she was most hopeful that very soon the wonderful opportunities in Wellington of helping the young girls and women would be taken advantage of, and that the association here would- advance from strength to strength. It was a happy thing to realise that the Y.W.C.A. had more members than any other women's association in the world. The membership was for old and young, and sho felt that it supplied the wants of the adolescents, particularly, splendidly-

Miss Cole, Miss M'Kegg, and Miss Bolt also responded, in cheerful and hopeful vein. Miss Nora Gray and Mrs. Ramsay gave some delightful music, and supper concluded an.; interesting evening.
