MAKARA COUNTY
MEETING OF COUNCIL
The monthly meeting of the Makara County Council was held to-day, Councillor E. Windley presiding. There were also present Councillors W. S. Wheeler, M. S. G. Monk, B. W. Bothamley, E. G. Mexted, D. Prosser, and L. C. Bryant.
A letter was received from the Wellington Free Ambulance Service, thanking the council for its contribution of £86 for 1928-29.
The chairman was appointed to represent tho council at a conference of local body representatives to be held on 12th March to consider the levying and allocation 6f heavy traffic fees.
The Porirua Progressive Association wrote, complaining that a drain from the accommodation hotel was polluting the Porirua stream. The chairman said that tho attention of tho Health inspectors had been drawn to tho nuisance on several occasions, but no action had been taken. It was decided to refer'tho matter to the Health authorities, with a. recommendation that instruction be given for the installation of an up-to-date sanitary service..
The association's request for the provision of protective netting ..on the bridge near the Porirua Post Office, was referred to the foreman for action.
The foreman reported that the danger notice on the Titahi Beach had been removed to a more conspicuous place further down the beach. Two movable danger signs had been completed and handed over to the custodian.
. It was decided to impose a 10 per cent, penalty in all cases where rates were left unpaid by 31st March.
