MUNICIPAL CONCERTS
POOR ATTENDANCES
BROADCASTING BLAMED
(By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.")
AUCKLAND, This Day.
Because of the poor attendances at the organ recitals and band performances arranged by the City Council for the Town Hall, the'position regarding municipal music generally has been under review for several months. . Last evening the Finance Committee submitted a recommendation that the existing arrangements bo continued in the meantime. The council decided, that the recommendation should be referred back.
Miss Ellon Melville remarked: ''It's no use referring the matter back, because the committee can't come to any further decision."
Comparisons with other cities have been submitted. Reports by Bandmaster Christopher Smith and the City Organist, Mr. Maughan Barnett, showed that the present serious position was largely attributable to broadcasting, which had created havoc in the concert world.
The committeo reported that the organ attendances average- 120, and takings less than £4.
