SYDNEY, This Day.

The attack by Papuan natives on a Government party, reported on. 6th March, appears to have been much fiercer in character than, at first announced. The Government party numbered eighty. The day .after their arrival at Goilaba, the natives were seen gathering armed with spears. Al volley of arrows injured three native policemen. Fighting continued throughout the day, arrows flying in'all direc* tions. On tho following day an attack was made from all sides, volley; after volley of spears coming, from the thick scrub. The total casualties were nine of the attackers killed by rifle fire with an additional casualty uncertain.
