NORTHLAND TRAMS
EXTENSION SOUGHT
BUSES TO CONTINUE
The Mayor, accompanied by Councillors Burn, Gaudin, and M'Keen, members of the Tramways Committee, and Mr. M. Cable, ' Tramways Manager, visited Northland this morning in connection with the request of the Northland Progressive Association that the tramway extension now under construction should be carried on as far as Seaview terrace. The committee was met by Mr. S. E. Lambert, president of the association, and Messrs. J. Mason and C. H. Nicholls, who conducted the party over the ground.and drew attention to the development that had taken place in the district since the proposed terminus was decided upon some seven or eight years ago.
The consensus of opinion expressed was that the request of the association was a reasonable ono, and that tho additional length of line asked for should bo constructed as soon as possible. The matter will be further considered by the Tramways Committee, which will report to the council in due course.
The question of the bus service was also raised, and the Mayor gave his assurance that a bus service to Te Aro would be maintained as required, although it might be necessary to increase the concession fare on the buses slightly when the trams were running.
Mr. Lambert requested that an additional bus stop should bo granted on Northland road half-way between the junction with Glenmore street and the stop at Farm road, and Mr. Cable undertook to give this matter his consideration.
Good progress is now being made with the 1 tramway construction, and trams should be running to Northland in a few weeks.' time.
