ELECTION NEXT WEEK
NEW COMMITTEES
Under the provisions" of the Licensing Act, licensing, committees throughout the Dominion are subject to'a new election every three years, polls being held for the purpose, yhere necessary, on the second .Tuesday in the month of March following'a General Election.
In accordance with the law, therefore, elections ,will require to be held on Tuesday of next week'in thirteen licensing districts in which nominations have been received in excess of the number of vacancies.. These districts are Auckland, Bay of Islands, Central Otago, Hurunui, Hutt, Marsden, MidCanterbury, Motueka, Pahiatiia, Palmerston, Temuka, Timaru, and Waipawa. In all other licensing districts the required number of nominations has been received, and the nominees are formally declared elected.
The nominees for the Hutt, Palmerston, and Pahiatua licensing districts are as follows:—-
Hutt. —Messrs. .Anderson, August, Bowdeii, Rainsford, and Robinson. Palmerston.—Messrs. Allerby, 'Birnie. Clausen, Durwftrd, Graham, Hodgens. and Johnston. ' ■ Pahiatua.—Messrs. Britland, Carston, Goldfinch, Hodd, Home, and Rosa. In each case bnly five members are required. The election will be decided on the Parliamentary franchise. Electors who did not exercise their voting right at the recent General Election may vote at the licensing committee election provided they are. still, properly qualified by residence and otherwise.
