Play In the .senior championship tourney of the Ngalo Chess Club was concluded on.Tuesday evening, interest In this contest boing sustained right up to the conclusion of the last game, B. B. Topp v. S. Faulknor.. Had the former's effort to draw the game been successful there would have been a triple tie for first place. Mr. Faulknor, however, succeeded in scoring the game, and ho thus retains the club championship, which he won a year ago. Hicks, the club's ex-champlbn; spoilt his chance by only scoring l\b points in the ilrst half of this two-round contest, in the second half he made a fine i-ecovery, his tally being 4 wins and 1 draw (4%-%). Mr. Brooker, the club's popular president, who shares second place with Mr. Hicks had the satisfaction of scoring both his game!" against the champion. The two colts, Messrs. B. Topp and J. A. Barnes, showed much promise; The latter has been transferred to New Plymouth, and has joined the .oral club. Messrs. J. A. Glasgow and A. T.. Eades are leading in the club's Junior championship con- , test, with Messrs. E. W. Ford and W. hicks ! in close pursuit . , There wcro ten competitors lv (bo clubs annual handicap tourney, the seven best tallies being as follow:-S. Faulknor 7 wins, 2 losses; E. E. Hicks, 6%, 2%; F. i Brooker, 6, 3; J. A. Barnes, 6, 3; J. A. Glasgow, 4V 2 , 4>A; H. Prince, 4, 5; and H. Topp, 4. 5. Mr. Faulknor, having won both tourneys, has received several congratulations on registering this fine "double." Mr. E. E. Hicks was actually the only player to go through me handicap tourney without losing a game, out his score included five draws, 1 which Is <=<lulvalent to 2i,4 losses, and this landed him In second place.
