AN ACTIVE THIEF

_ lwo labourers, Frank Ernest Hart, aged 23, and Avon lioderick Ayres, aged 40, admitted in the Magistrate's Court to-day being found without lawful excuse in an enclosed yard at' 11, Marion street Hart also pleaded guilty to being an idle and disorderly person, in that he had insufficient lawful means of support. Mr. X, Hardy Boys 'appeared for the accused.

Chief-Detective Ward said that at about 9 p.m. on 2-ltli January detectives Haw the accused entering the premises. The accused apparently saw or heard the detectives and they ran away, but wore later caught. Hart had not done any work i'or the past month, aud had been seen about the streets in company with a convicted thief. Ayres had been working up till the night o£ his arrest. Both men had been before the Court previously In reply to Mr. R. Page, S.M.. the Chief Detective said, "We regard Hart as an active thief. We have had a number of complaints about him for some time past." On the first charge both the accused were convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within twelve months. On the idle and disorderly charge Hart was sentenced to three months' imprisonment.
