Further indication, of the keenness at present existing among American shipping companies to secure their share of the New Zealand-America trade is given in the decision' recently made by the Oceanic and Oriental Navigation Company of San Francisco to provide refrigerating space in four of tho company's ships trading between New Zealand and the American ports. According to advice received in Wellington to-day, the intention is to make provision on the bridge deck for sufficient refrigerating space for the accommodation of 250 measured tons. Two compressors of the ammonia typo will bo capable of maintaining a temperature of anything down to lOdeg. Fahrenheit.
Tho Golden Cross is already being fitted, and it is expected that she will be ready for service with the alterations completfirl some timo in March It has not yet been definitely decided which the other three vessels will be, but it is probable that they will be the Golden State, Golden Bear, and Golden Cloud, which leave America in April May, and June respectively.
