UNUSUAL APPLICATION

LONDON^ 29th January.

An unusual application in the Probato Court was made by Mrs. Stevenson, sister and residuary legatee of the late Sir William Maxwell, ex-war correspondent and husband of Nora Delaney, actress, to have certain words expunged from his will, words which had not been made public, had no testamentary effect, and would only give l>ain to the person mentioned.

Mr. Justice Hill decided that he had no power to grant the application, but ordered tho expurgation of the words frpm the probate. Though any one might inspect the will arid see the words, they could not be published without risk of action for slander or libel.
