MAKARA COUNTY COUNCIL

The Makara County Council met today, when Mr. E. Windley presided, and the following councillors attended:— L. C. Bryant, I{. G. Moxted, It. W. Botlmmlcy, Diiiiban Sloane, "M. S. G. Monk, W. S. Wheeler, and D. Prosser.

"The road users should, maintain the roads, 1' snid tho chairman, when tlio following motion from the Tnuranga County Council was before tho meeting:—"That this council views with alarm the ever-increasing burden upon tho ratepayers since the inception of motor traffic, more especially in the case of main roads so largely and continuously used by the general travelling public. Tho Tauranga County Council considers that the ono and most equitable method of coping with the problem of maintenance of main roads is per medium of the petrol tax or other direct levy on motor users, and that the Government be urged to pass legislation, to effect this solution at tho earliest Opportunity." The resolution received support from all tho councillors except Councillor Mexted, who dissented when the motion was put on the ground that "things are very good as they are.".. .. \ A special meeting hold after tli* ordinary business of the council decided that Thursday should'continue to bo tho statutory half-holiday in the county.' .
