An Intense depression of the westerly typo continues to dominate the meteorological situation, and strong winds between north and ■west have ruled with gale farco at many places south of New Plymouth and Napier. The weather has been cloudy, unsettled, and squally from Cook Strait southwards and in Taranakl, but mainly fair to cloudy in the east coast, central and northern provinces of the North Island. Further rain has fallen 'in tho South Island, with many heavy downpours associated with thunderstorms during yesterday afternoon , and night. Arthur's Pass had 78S points. TO-DAY'S WEATHER.
