INTERVIEW WITH MR. EDWIN GEACH Mr.; Edwin I Geach, the well-known theatrical manager, and one of tho directors of Union Theatres, Ltd., arrived to-day from Sydney, accompanied by Mrs. Geach. He intends to spend a summer vacation in Wellington, having taken a, house in Day's Bay. Commenting '.' on - tho new talking picture, Mr. Gcnch-states that Union Theatres, Ltd., are of -the opinion that tho synchronised sound film is "hero' to stay, and that his directors are spending £147,000 to install equipment in 21 theatres on their Australian circuit alone. ■. - Talking films, to be released oh tho Union Theatres-circuit, will give exclusive. "CiiVcsouud" (Western Electric system) presentations, which will represent tho highest form of' sound picture entertainment. Referring to the huge building programme undertaken by Union Theatres, Ltd., Mr. Geach said that those theatres that were completed; and those Hearing completion, had more than exceeded expectations. Speaking of the beautiful Capitol Theatre in Sydney, which is designed in the- Italian' garden 'Style, Mr. Geach states that since its opening some nine months ago, this first atmospheric house in Australia has been a tremendous success. The Ambassadors' Theatre, Perth, a replica in size and design of Sydney's. Capitol, has also caught on in public favour. In Melbourne the new State. Theatre, also '-'atmospheric" and in Venetian garden style, is rapidly nearing completion. Situated in the very best position iv Melbourne, in Flinders street, right opposite; the. railway station, it will not only add to Melbourne's ..attraction, but from a.building point of view will rank one of the most beautifultheatres in the-British Empire. The.State Theatre, Sydney, to bo completed in April, will run Union Theatres into an expenditure of three-quarters of . a million ppunds. It is being built in conjunction with, a - tw.elyc-story shopping block in which 150 shops will bo housed. High elevator lifts will bo in service capable of handling 150 people every three minutes. The State Theatre will be in the period of Louis XIV., and will be the outstanding contribution to the tremendous . building programme now being 'undertaken in Sydney;. Mr. Geach will visit, the fishing resorts of the far North, during his stay in New Zealand.
