NEW HUTT BRIDGE
XEARING COMPLETION
The following report..on the work dove ou the new Hutt Bridge was last evening received from'the Borough Engineer (Mr. A. G. Bush) by the Lower Hutt Borough Council The bridge proper has been completed with the exception of the deck paving and fitting of lamps, etc. Work carried out during the month consisted mainly of forluutioLi and construction of the approaches. The new street has been formed and graded and a start made on the consolidation. . Onjthe western approaches most of the filling has been placed and roughly, brought up to grade. The small concrete retailing wall opposite the school.has been completed. Approximately .8000 cubic yards of filling lias been placed. The gabion and facing erected at the foot of the northeastern wing wall afforded ample protection during the heavy flood on 3rd November. Had this gabion not been in, it is more than probable that scour would have taken place under the wing counter. The high ■: flood caused no damage to the bridge. Power lines on.the western end of the bridge, which were deviated to permit of pile-driving, have now been re-erected in their final position, and the unnecessary poles are being removed. Some 17G feet of kerbing on each side of the new street have been run from the junction of Woburu road and Market street. Two sumps and cross connections to anew riine-iuch stormwator sewer have been placed. One new sump has been placed in Woburn road to replace that which existed at the junction of Market street, it being. necessary .to alter its position to permit of the formation of the;new. street. .Five chains of fourinch wa,tcruiain have'been, laid from the seven-inch main in Woburn road down the new. street, with necessary fire plugs, valves, and fittings. ..
