A BRIGHT EFFORT
TECHNICAL CQ.LL._-QE PUPILS ' £500 FOR MOUNT COOK Among the bright efforts that have been made to. help the Art Gallery and Museum Fund none stand out moro than that made by the staff and pupils of tho Wellington Technioal College. From the first the. college took a great interest in tho campaign, for the national buildings are to be erected very near to home, as it were, and when the Director,. Mr. J. H. Howell, and the Arts School Director, Mr. Nelson Isaac, laid suggestions before tho college they wore taken up enthusiastically. As a first contribution the pupils-worked up a series of original campaign posters, which are,1 or should be, now displayed in shop windows in the city, and though it was then quite early in tho day the pupils decided to get'their own little fund going, and ,each put in a penny or threepence per week. The staff, so to. speak, "covered" these weekly amounts, with the result that £150 was so raised. Later the wholo college made preparations for a bazaar sale of work. This was opened by tho Mayor, Mr. G-. A. Troup, last Friday, and at last evening's meeting of the College Board, Mr. Howell reported that the college had reached its objective, and in a fewdays' time would hand to the Mayor a cheque'making up the full £500, £150 of which had already been paid over.; Friday's takings, he said,- were just ' over £380, there vere a few expenses- to bo met, but certain other sums were still to be collected. The chairman, Mr. V. H. Bennett, expressed satisfaction and pleasure at the success of the effort, and congratulated the staff and pupils upon the very practical interest they were showing in tho campaign. Everyone at the college helped in some way or another, but tho little help of ono small boy> regarded from the right stand point, bulked quite largely: he apologised for not being able to contribute anything directly himself, but he had '^made two pounds of butter that someone might buy." j Someone did.
