There was an attendance of four thousand to-day at tho cricket match ; between .England and Queensland. The weather was mild but overcast, with a fair light. The wicket was fairly true, and with the outfield faster in favour of tlio batsmen. Leyland opened tho score with a pretty leg glance for 4. Leyland and Ames were hit by fast balls from Nothling. Then Ames was caught from a gentle tap to tho slips after being tied up by Nothling. A hundred and fifty took" 156 minutes to get. Geary received a ball on the chest from Nothling, play being stopped for a time. Geary later wqs struck on the hands twice,from tho same bowler. Nothling was relieved by Thurlow, tho first ball from whom, cut into the slips by Leyland, was missed by Knowles. In the next over Leyland was missed again off Hornibrook by Knowles, who ran in too late. Two hundred were compiled in 210 minutes. Leyland's 50 took seven'ty-threo minutes. When 73 Leyland gave a third chance to Rowe in tho slips off Nothling.. Tho partnership produced a century in 111 minutes. When his bat split at 94 Leyland gave a fourth easy chance off Rowe to Thompson at midon, who timed badly, holding out ono hand. Leyland reached his century in 169 minutes. Shortly after a piece flow off the back of Geary's bat. The fielding was indifferent. Leyland, whose 100 took one hundred and ninety-two minutes, was caught at long-on by Gough oft Rowe immediately after tea. His partnership with Geary had yielded 137, made in one hundred and fifty-three minutes, an eighth wicket record for Queensland. The innings lasted 325 minutes. Geary's 32 took- ISO minutes to get. Queensland opened at 5 o'clock, with the batsmen shaky. Gough was first out, going with the fourth ball of the' first over. Higgins in the second over hit a ball on his wicket.
