A LEAKY VESSEL

EVIDENCE OF CREW NO LIFEBOAT DRILL Australian Press Association. (Received 21st November, 1 p.m.) NEW YORK, 20th Novombcr. When the inquiry into the Vestris disaster was resumed, a survivor, Isaac Scott, a waiter, testified before Mr, Tuttlo that tho Vestris had leaked for tho last four voyages from a starboard door six feet abovo the water. Ho stated that none of tho crew had been assigned to tho lifeboats on tho last voyage, and they had no drills for passengers. Thomas Conno, a head waiter, said:— "In my opinion the Vostris had a slight list on all tho five voyages on which I sailed. The list increased on tho last voyage five hours from New York." Gilbert Pord, a negro chief fireman, said that it was not unusual to find water in tho engine-room. Ho said that ho was unable to make tho screws work on the leaking ash hopper. The last lifeboat drill ho could remember was on tho Vestris's last northern trip.
