Ho stated that none of tho crew had been assigned to tho lifeboats on tho last voyage, and they had no drills for passengers. Thomas Conno, a head waiter, said:— "In my opinion the Vostris had a slight list on all tho five voyages on which I sailed. The list increased on tho last voyage five hours from New York." Gilbert Pord, a negro chief fireman, said that it was not unusual to find water in tho engine-room. Ho said that ho was unable to make tho screws work on the leaking ash hopper.
