PROPOSAL CONDEMNED
JOINT1 STOCK LAND BANKS The- Chambers of Commerce recently passed a resolution in favour of joint stock and land banks in the country. The Farmers' Union at a meeting to-day condemned it utterly, and expressed the opinion that it was a pity that the chambers o£ commerce, at the iustiaution of the Governuieut-appointed member of the Intermediate Credit Board should have brought down and agreed to such a resolution without asking for the opinion of the Farmers' Union. The meeting carried a resolution urging the Government to be guided by the report of the Royal Commission on Rural Credits, and on jio account to agree to the establishment of joint stock land banks.
