LIFE-SAVING

LYALL BAY CLUB . The annual meeting of the Lyall Bay Surf and Life-saving Club wai. held last week, Mr. P. F. Coira presiding. ■ . • The report stated that the . prestige of the club had been well maintained during the season, and the standard of proficiency by all members was noteworthy. The Nelson Shield team were congratulated' on their rescue of two bathers in difficulties at St. Clair, Dunedm. Regret was expressed at the loss to the club of two of its most.valuable supporters, Messrs. P. Rundle and J. Williams, who had been transferred to other centres. The finances were in a low state owing mainly to the considerable expense of sending the Nelson Shield team to Dunedin. Club teams were successful in a number of important competitions and in they New Zealand and provincial championships and the Norden Cup contest at Christehurch. The executive was conndent that the coming season would again be a successful one. Six new members were elected. The following officers were elected:— Patron, Mr. L. P. Blundell; president, Mr. Lan Duncan; vice-presidents, Dr. Levy, Messrs. L. C. Blundell, C. E. Bridge, 1). Claridge, Gallate, Martin Luclde, H. Murphy, J. M. Murrell, P. Rundle, J. Sanford, R. Semple, and D. Tripe; club captain, Mr. P. F. Coira; senior deputy-cap-tain, Mr. S. Muller; junior deputy-captain, Mr. I'1. Mollier; hon. instructor-in-chief, Mr. S. Muller; hon. secretary, Mr. F. Ryan; hon. treasurer, Mr. J. Hill; gear steward, Mr. W. V. Griffin; committee, Messrs. J. Cameron, H. Dickson, S. J. Dudson, J. Foley, and J. Pelham; delegates to R.L.S.S., Messrs. L. F; Dawkins -and F. Mollier; delegate to N.Z.A.S.A., Mr. S. Dudson; hon. auditor, Mr. W. G. Morpeth. The opeuing day was fixed for Saturday, 27th October, at 3 p.m. v It was decided.to,hold a gala on a small scale on the beach during the Christmas and New Year holidays, provided permission could be obtained from the City Council.
