WELLINGTON TOURISTS WIN (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, 15th September. In a game that was a long way below representative standard, and at times bordering on the farcical, Wellington defeated .Otago by 22. points.to 0. Otago won the toss, and played with the slanting rays of the sun at their backs. Goman opened up the play well from the Otago twenty-five, but a possible try was thrown away by a wretched pass to lUliot. Elliot next put in a great dash down the line, and placed a low punt into a gap, but Callender cleared, Both seta o£ backs were trying to open up the game, but the passing was poor, and the ball seldom got out to the wings, aud Heazelwood ran up among the three-quar-ters, and was beautifully taken-by Bot : ting, but with a clear field in front ot him Graham knocked on. Wellington were penalised at the twenty-five, but Nicholson missed an easy kick, and Haughton made a great run through tne Wellington backs, but gave a wretched pass to Donnelly. Coman broke away, and passed to Elliot, who ran deep into the defence, and short-punted, Callender being forced over the line. The play so far was very poor, and a long way below representative standard. Wellington were given a penalty just inside the half-way, and Heazelwood kicked a great goal. Wellington 3, Otago 0. Elliot was showing dash, but was getting few chances. Donnelly made an opening lor Graham, but' the latter threw a low pass to Davis, and knocked on. Pickering broke into Otago, passing and running down to the full-back, kicked over the latter's head, and, gathering the ball in again, scored a fine try near the posts. Heazelwood converted. Wellington 8, Otago 0. Heazelwood did not get down on an Otago forward rush, and Dunne went across the line, but was recalled for a knock-on. Wellington were penalised, and Callender kicked a goal. Wellington 8, Otago 3. Shearer broke away, and passing among the forwards ended in Potts going over by the posts for Heazelwood to convert. Wellington 13, Otago 3. The .play continued to be poor until half-time. THE SECOND HALF. The conditions were ideal when the teams lined out in the second spell. Elliot made a fine dash down the left-wing, and cot within two yards of the line betore being held up. Donnelly was kicking well, and was working the touch-line judiciously. The tackling of the Otago backs was very poor, and the Wellington forwards were getting .much further than they should have been allowed to. Dunne headed an Otago rush, and, pickiug xfp at the twenty-five, passed-to Davis, who gave More a clear run in. Callendur missed an easy kick. Wellington 13, Otago 6. Heazelwood was caught in possession, and Otago opened up a rush, which was spoiled by a bad pass to Graham. Back came Wellington in a great rush,' and Wilson finished it off near the corner. -Heazelwood missed the kick. Wellington 16, Otago 6. A Wellington forward obstructed Donnelly, and from the penalty Callender kicked a goal. Wellington 16, Otago 9. The ball went right along the Otago backs, but Webb was crowded on the touch-lino. The Wellington forwards were playing a lot of offside and were perhaps lucky in not being penalised more freely. M'Lean broke away and Brodenck came into the rush to score at the corner. Heazelwood missed the .kick. Wellington 19, Otago 0. From a scramble on the line Williams went over at the corner, but Heazelwood missed the kick. Wellington 22, Otago 9.
