West, of Manchester.Iv conversation with a reporter, Mr.. West stated that his stay in the Doniinion was practically at an end. . Heintended to visit Napier for a few days, after which, with Mrs. West, he would sail for Canada on tho next stage of his round-the-world tour. In the course of his motor trip through New Zealand, he had visited Auckland, Wellington, Christchureh, Dunedin, Timaru, and Oamaru. He had done a big mileage over the roads of this young country, and characterised the highways as "exceedingly good:" "I would say," said Mr. West, "that considering;the comparatively small population and the long distances between the large towns, the roads are exceedingly good; indeed, better than I had expected. I-was, particularly impressed with the state of the road be.-, tween this town and Wellington." Another point which had impressed him iv New 'Zealand, said Mr. West, was the loyalty of tho people to the; Old Country, which was practically demonstrated by their preference for British-made goods. Mr. West stated that his trip had been made largely for business purposes, and in tho course of his travels ho had collected from business men information which ho was satisfied would bo of the greatest assistance to manufacturers, at Home doing business with Australia and New Zealand. There were certain aspects of the Australasian trade on which information was needed, and ho hoped- that the data collected by him on his trip would be of use to Home manufacturers.
