MATERNAL WELFARE

CHAIR OF OBSTETRICS Mr. T. K. Sidey, M.P., Chancellor of the University of Otago, has received a letter from the Hon. B. A. Wright, Minister of Education, stating that "provision is being made in the supplementary estimates for an extra grant of £500 to the Otago Medical School for instruction in midwifery." Mr. Sidey states that this grant, together with the amount now available, will enable tho University Council to establish a Chair of Obstetrics, as recommended by the medical faculty and as based on the report of Dr. Jellott, Consultant Obstetrician to the Department of Health.
