INTERCLUB EXHIBITION Tho extraordinary beauty of photographic work well done is plioivn in the fixly odd exhibits at tho New Zealand luterclub Exhibition of Pictorial Photography, which is being held in Wellington just now under tho auspices of the local camera club. Besides the- entries' from the live clubs, there is also on view a collection of "'Photogranis of 102o," considered to be the best efforts of the year of the leading.-: workers, aud including samples of the work of J. M. Whilehcatl, Jan. M'Kissack, Leonardo Misssomie, J. Dudley Johnston (president in 1023 of the .Royal Phototographie Society, whoso picture, "Snow Roofs," was so talked of at the time), K. O. Libby, and J. ]i. Eaton. With this high-class work hung on one side of the room and the Dominion photographers' efforts on the other, a big difference in standard might be expected, but in several cases at least the comparison is quite favourable. Sir John Luke oflicially opened the exhibition last night in (he Camera. Club room at the corner of Wakelield and Tory streets, other speakers being Mr. Malcolm lioss, Ii'.R.G.S., president of the club, and Mr. A. S. Mitchell, A.K.P.S. Although a Wellington photographer, Mr. Boyer, exhibited the champion picture, "The Look-out," scoring 93 points, thcDtiuedin Club won the inter-club competition, Wellington being second, lnvercargill third, Auckland fourth, and Christchurch fifth. In individual placings in tho Dunedin section, Miss E. B. jeans was awarded first place with her exhibit, "Where Once tho Forest Stood," C. S. Erwin's well-nam-ed portrait study, "tteally," being placed second. Among the Invercargill exhibitors, A. N. Baker ("The Mighty Fallen") and A. M. Macdonald ("Labour") were each given SS points, and A.N. Baker also secured second place with "Design in Brass." "Golden Gate," a seascape by J. 11. Kinnier in the Auckland section, received 78 marks, with Miss Una Garlick's "Tatooed .Maori Wukiue" second. F. L. Casbolt (Christchurch) shows some delightful bromoils, his "Museum Entrance," a gem, being placed first. Among the Wellington pictures, and next, to Mr. Boyer's champion, the judges, Messrs. A. S. Mitchell aud A. H. Eaton, placed "The Weight of Years" (Mr. JE. T. Eobson) with 80 points, considering it the best portrait in the collection. "Nature's Stronghold" and "Industry" (Mr. Kobson and Mr. Boyer) are third equal with 88 points. It is six years since a photographic exhibition has been held in Wellington, and there is likely to be another stretch of time before ouc is again staged here, so that all -who are interested in the camera art should see the present exhibition. It will be open between 8 and 10 p.m.. tonight, and also on Thursday next at the same time.
