Tho gramophone recital given iv the Coucert Chamber last night by Mr. Ernest Dawson covered practically the wliolo Held of music. The selection of records showed admirable discernment, and tho large audience were as enthusiastic as if the performers themselves had appeared lv person. Tho mighty orchestration of "Toccata and Ifuguo in 1) Minor," played by the famous Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra> which has few peers in tho world, was a memorablo performance. The "Madame Butterfly" duet, "lo T'ho Ghermita," by Margaret Sheridan and Aureliano Pertilo was artistically sung and much appreciated, aud another gem which was instantly popular was "Zapatoado" (Sarasato) played by the eminent violinist Jascha Hoifetz. The warm rich tones of tho great woman 'cellist, Gullhernilna Supgia, in "Kol Nodei" (Bruch) were reproduced with remarkable fidelity, aud the La Scala Chorus brought out the charming me!odv of "O Signore dal Tetto , Natio" from Verdi's "1 Lombardi." Tho new baritone still. Lawrence Tibbett. sang "Tho Prologue" from "I Pagliacci." This is an outstanding disc. Another record that caught the fancy of the audience was "Love's Old Sweet Song" (Molloy), by tho new Kiiglish contralto Essie Acliland, and the. line aria "It.condlta Armonia" brought out the beautiful tenor vnico of Ben. lauiino Glfjtl. Other items included "Invitation to tho Waltz" by Corlot, who was also heard with tho London Symphony Orchestra in it movement from Schumann's "Concerto iv A Minor,' overture, "Barber of Seville" by tho Berlin State Orchestra, "Song of tho Volga Boatman" by Chaliapin, and an oxcorpt from "The Gondoliers."
