With an amazing list and two holds burning fiercely, tho steamer Castleinoor arrived at Albany. All efforts to cope with tho outbreak were futilo. The steamer's plates buckled under the heat, and the mizzenmast sank two feet. The vessel, which is badly clam aged, has been beached near the deepwater .pier, and it is expected that the outbreak will eventually be extinguished. Tho fire was first noticed on 23rd August, when the vessel was in tho South Indian Ocean. In tho run to Albany the whole of the crew were compelled to work long hours in blinding smoke, penetrating fumes, pumping tons of water hourly on the blaze;
