TREATY WITH JAPAN
PRIME MINISTER EXPLAINS (By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.") CHKISTCHURCH, This Day. Mr. i\ X- Cooko, acting-secretary of the New Zealand Clothing Trades' Federation, has received, a further letter from tho Prinio Minister with respect to tho commercial arrangement which was recently mado between Now Zealand and Japan. The Prime Minister states that tue arrangement does not in any way modify tho duties in New Zealand on goods imported from Japan. "In these circumstances," ho adds, "you will see that it cannot in any way affect competition between clothing or other goods made in Japan ana similar classes of articles manufactured in New Zealand. So far as the duties on goods are concerned, the only important result of the arrangement is that New^ Zealand butter is now admitted into Japan at a lower rate of duty than previously."
