4. COLLISION ON HUTT ROAD TWO PASSENGERS INJURED Two motor-cars wero badly damaged and two passengers injured in a collision which occurred about 3 o'clock this morning on the Hutt road about 100 yards south of the Ngahauranga Gorge. A touring car in charge of Archibald J. D. M'Arthur was being driven along the road towards Lower Hutt when it ran into a light car, driven by Noel Hector Liardet, who was coming from Upper Hutt to Wellington. Tho fronts of both cars suffered considerably, and in addition the running board and front mudguard on tho right hand side of Liadet's car were smashed. The drivers of tho cars escaped injury, but A. J. Gowdall, a bootmaker, of 30, Mitchell street, v passenger in the light car, and L. Gannaway, a salesman, of 8, Huia street, Lower Hutt, who was travelling in the touring car, were injured about tho face, and were taken to the Hospital by the City Ambulance. They are reported by tho Hospital authorities to bo progressing favourably. It is not known definitely how the accident was caused, but it was stated by one person this morning,that the steering gear of tho touring car jammed suddenly.. .
