PEACE OF THE WORLD
FUNCTION OF NAVY POLICE FORCE OE'thE SEAS (By Tolearaph.) (Special to "The Eveniny Post.") OHBISTCHtrRCHJ This Day. "The strength of the British Navy should bo kept up, but I hopo to God. that it will not have to bo used for war. fether should it bo like a great Police Force for peace in the world," said Archbishop Julius in an address to the Canterbury branch of the Navy League. Tho Archbishop said that a very definite and unmistakable movement to-s wards peace had come about since the Great War. First, tliero 'was; the Leaguo of .Nations, about which tho speaker would say nothing, except that it had disappointed many people. Then had come the Kellogg Pact. Perhaps flags should have been flown, and bells rung in Christehurch at the time of the signing of the. Pact, as "was done in Wellington, but perhaps they wero | more energetic there. ' . '' When agreements such as the Kellogg Peace Pact are drawn up," : said tUo Archbishop, "people ask what is the Navy needed for,' anil why should it not be scrapped. ■ Tho Pact, is very vaguo and indistinct, and.it is i hard to understand how it will prevent any nation from going to war." The speaker said that tho British Navy stpod for peace rather than for war, and ho felt proud when he recollQetcd how many times tho..Navy had prevented strife. Tho Great War hafl been terrible, and iiQVonc wanted a recurrence- of it. Ho trusted that the time would come- whon disputes among nations would be settled in much tho same way as two fighters were dealt with in any London street, by the calling in of a blue-eoatcd man with whita glavos. Tho Navy should be a great Police Force to ensure world peace.
