BOYS' INSTITUTE CONCERT.

A very successful concert was held in the new Institute Hall, Tasman street, on Tuesday evening last, in aid of the Institute sports fund. The Mayor (Mr. G. A. Troup) presided. In addressing the audience, Mr. Troup, who has been president of the institute for many years, traced the progress of the institute from the days when its work was carried out in a room lent by the Mount Cook Boys' School, until the present day, when the five-story building in Tasman street has grown too small for its needs and the building adjoining the institute has been purchased and converted into a hall and club rooms. Tho quality of the programme which followed the chairman's address was excellent, several well-known artists appearing. Among those who contributed were: Miss Watkins, song; Mr. Collins, song; Mrs. Ferguson, recitation; Mr. Andrews, piano items; Miss Kathleen Wood, song; Mr. B. Mayall, song; Mr. C. A. Holden, monologue; Mrs. Willman. song; Mr. W. W. Marshall, song; Miss Cunningham, song; Institute Orchestra, orchestral selections. , At the close of the performance, the acting-president (Mr. J. Hislop) conveyed, the thanks of the members of the institute to the performers, and tc the audience for its patronage. Mr. W. A. Parton proposed a vote of thanks to the chairman. _______________
