MARIST BEAT HOSPITAL. After a hard struggle on No. 1 ground at; the Basin Reserve, Marist defeated Hospital by two goals to one in a game in which Hospital held the upper hand for the greater part of the time. Marist did not equalise till half-way through the second spell, and registered the winning goal in the last minute of the match. The teams were:— . . Hospital: Trewick, Gibb, Thompson, Soutar, Jeffery, Simon, Fudge,' Marshall, Anderson, White, Lambert. Marist: Hickey, Kelly, Rudolph, Durniflg, Thomas, Burke, Barton, Mahouey, Brennan, Scott, Cudby. Marist" kicked off, and immediately attacked, Barton working down the right wing. He centred beautifully. After some anxious'moments near the goal, Hospital cleared. The Hospital halves sent the ball 'away, and Lambert finished a bright movement with a hard shot. Hospital continued to press, the halves—particularly Simon—feeding the forwards. The Marist defence was called on frequently. After a period of even play Barton was sent aw,ay, arid placed Marist in an attacking position. The movement was finished by a shot from Cudby, which passed to. the side. -; From Thomas, the ball passed to Cudby, and was touched by the Marist forwards in suceessioa till the team had a scoring position. The shot was taken by Mahoney, who was forced to kick behind. Play was immediately transferred to the Marist goal, where Anderson failed to take advantage of a good opportunity. Later, White shot from close quarters, and Hickey just saved. Hospital kept the ball near the Marist goal, and Anderson scored from close in; Hospital 1, Marist 0. From the kick-off Marist pressed, Cudby taking the ball down the line. He crossed to Barton, and the latter squared a beautiful centre." Trewick brought off a, good save. Cudby again broke away and centred from the left, but Trewick saved. The movement was repeated, and again the Hospital- goalkeeper was equal to the occasiou. Half-time was called with the score unaltered. Marist started the second spell with a determined effort and forced a corner. Cudby worked up the wing, and centred beautifully. Brennan was in a handy position to score, but hesitated, and Thompson came through to save. Marist poreed a corner, and Scott sent the ball high over the bar from close up. Mahoney /broke away, but Trewick saved, coming a long way out of goal. Lambert and Anderson featured in a forward movement, and ■ the latter worked into a good position with only the goalie to beat. Hickey, however, brought off a brilliant save. By a determined effort Marist went down to the Hospital goal, and a corner resulted. Scott shot from the wing, and Trewick made a brilliant save. A few minutes later Burke evened matters with a well-dropped shot. 1-1. Lambert broke away, and with Anderson and Fudge bore down on the Marist goal. The three forwards had only Eudolph to pass, but they cojild- not do it, and Rudolph cleared, /burning made a solo run and shot, from close quarters, but Trewiek was safe. The goalie also brilliantly, stopped' a shot from Barton. Cudby slipped the ball through to Durning, who in turn passed to. Cudby, and the latter scored from a few yards, out. Marist 2, Hospital 1. Marist held Hospital in the final: stages, and the game ended without further score.' , Mr. G. Jackson was the referee.
