ANIMAL WORSHIP
"DEGRADATION OF GREAT : ' :■ POWER" The cult of animal worship in women was referred to by Miss M. Richmond, founder of the Wellington Free Kindergarten movement, during the course of an address last evening.: "To spend tho love, and attention meant' for human children on horses and dogs or cats is the degredation of a great power," declared Miss Richmond, "and means personal deterioration in the individual w]jo indulges in it. In London ,the cult of, the toy dog is a nuisance and a scandal, while the danger to tho public of. keeping large pleasure dogs shut up in al'town, with no place for exercise but the streets and the public parks, grows greater every day. The benevolence, the natural idndness, the innate desire to bless and comfort of the normal woman,1 should flow first towards children, and afterwards towards the animal, creation. I quite grant that animals are a means of education, and in themselves worthy of respect. A good dog isa noble work of God, and •we may learn much from him. Only first things must be; put first, and the animals themselves preach. motherly devotion;to the young, by: their example." ■ ■ ... ■ ■
