TO PROTECT FRUIT GUARANTEE A motion expressing the desire of the fruit growers of New Zealand, to be seS^porting and to protect the> guat antee, which is of great value m tliq financing of shipments overseas, ay as moved at the Fruit Growers' Conferenceyesterday. Tho motion, which was moved by Mr. T. C. Brash, expressed tho desire of the growers to Protect the Government-guarantee by creating an insurance fund which would bo available for call in the event of the market prices not reaching the amount of the guarantee in any .year. The following motion was moved by Mr Brash:—"That this conference supports tho Control Board in its proposal to create a central 'fund for the purpose of protecting the Government Guarantee, such fund to be created by the board collecting the maximum levy under tho Act, 3d per case, and after paying ordinary expenses transfer the balance of each year's levy to such central fund; provision to be made whereby in the event of this fund reaching a sum considered to bo sufficient, yearly contributions bo refunded, commencing with the past year's contributions to those shippers in the proportion of the individual contribuI tions made; this resolution to bo referred back to meetings of exporters in the provincial districts before being put into operation; if necessary, this question be finally considered at a conforence of exporters' representatives to be called by the board." The motion was seconded by Mr. C. H. Mackay, and was carried.
