STRUCK BY TRAIN
LORRY DRIVER FINED A. collision between a train and a motor-lorry, driven by Charles H. Latham, at the Khandallah level crossing recently, had its sequel in the Magistrate's Court to-day when Latham was charged with having failed to take proper precautions beforo crossing tho i line. For the Railway Department, Mr. N. Davies said that although the cmerg- ' ency brakes on tho train were applied the engine could not be brought to a standstill in time, and it struck the rear of the lorry, throwing, it for some distance. The whistle had been 'soundled well before the crossing was reach!"ed. '■■ ' .•.-■■ Counsel for the defendant, Mr, W. D._ Goodwin, said that1 Latham had been injured,in .the accident and his lorry had .been,damaged. The crossing was a difficult one^ as it was approached by an uphill grade, and was, moreover, obscured until motorists were within a short distance of it. ' A fine of £ 5 was imposed by Mr. T. E.
