NEW FIRE STATIONS

. ♦ MIRAMAR AND BROOKLYN MORK MOTOR PUMPS The new lire stations for Miramat and Brooklyn districts aro now well ahead, and tho Miramar building may be ready for occupation, by tho cud of this month. Probably two permanent men will bo detailed to each of theso stations, which will provide comfortable living ■ accommodation, the remainder of tho machine crows being made up possibly Bf auxiliaries for the timo being at any rate. Tho Karori people also want a station of- their own, and a request in that direction- was before the Fire Board to-day. The members wero of tho opinion that'the Karori and Northland area should receive early consideration, but that no promises *could be mado at present;. Tho board authorised tho. superintendent (Mr. J. Creeke) to call for tenders for the supply of two new motor turbine engines, each with a pumping capacity of 250 gallons per minute. Ono will go to Miramar and tho other to Brooklyn. The board is requesting tho genoral manager of the Harbour Board to arrange for housing elsewhere than in tho central station of tho board's "steamer," .which for a long time past has been kept polished up and ready for tho road by tho brigadesmen. It is a long time since this old-timer was used, but it is .still very workable and can pump 1000 gallons per minute, the largest of tho motor engines boing capablo of '80C gallons: Should a very big iiro get going the old ' steamers (there is a second which belonged to the old city brigade) will come'into their own again", but they aro too heavy and slow in. getting the.ro to bo turned out except in.serious emergency. _,An inquiry from tho Upper Hutt Borough rCouncil as to whether tho Fire Board has sin old cnginb suitable for tho borough: for sale has been referred on to tho City Cnouoil. The board declined to tako ovor certain o£ tho maj chines which wero in commission when the. brigades were under the city control. . . '■ . •'' '■■■• . ; : '■
