COMMERCIAL AVIATION

BOOM PROPHESIED IN BRITAIN (A.P.A. and "Sun.") (Received 28th January, 3 p.m.) LONDON, 27th January. "Britain does not possess an "air sense," said Sir Sefton Brancker, Director of Civil Aviation, at Manchester. ["America and Germany in 1927 flew ! 6,000,000 miles in regular service; Britain 1,500,000. We are lagging behind, because people do not realise the enormous possibilities of commercial aviation, while Government assistance is restricted, and the industry does not pay its own way." Nevertheless, he urged Manchester to prepare for a boom in commercial aviation.
