CHILEAN DESTROYER

LAUNCHED AT THORNYCROFT'S (British Official Wireless.) EUGBY, 27th January. Tho new motor-boat destroyer, Serrano, named after one of the naval heroes of her country, was launched yesterday by Senora Huneeus, wife of the Chilean Minister to Great Britain, at the Woolston works of Messrs. Thorncroft. The Serrano is tho first of six ocean-going destroyers, five of which are at present in the various stages of construction. The contract for them was started in May, 1927, and its value is about £1,750,000. Practically every shipbuilding country competed for the order. The destroyers have a length overall of 300 feet and a displacement of about 430 tons.
