DE LUXE THEATRE
The love story of a modern girl collegian is told in "The Fair Co-Ed," which was the principal feature on the new programme screoned last evening at the De Luxe Theatre before a large audience. The star, Marion Davies, is ono of the most popular of the screen's comedy actresses, and her characterisation of the college girl was one of the best things she has so far done. The background to the romantic side of the picture dMls with collegiate life in America, which certainly differs from what one expects and finds in New Zealand, though, as with the Dominion, suort plays a very principal part in it. The heroine refuses to stay at college because the head appearance of Bob, who is personated by Johnny Mack Brown, at her door in an effort to sell somo books to help defray his college expenses, causes her to chsnse iier mind, and she returns, the result being a great mixture of romance and adventure. Supporting pictures include a news, dealing mostly with views of Armistice Day celebrations in different parts of the world, and a comedy, "The Second One Hundred Tears." The Orchestra De Luxe plays selections from Gilbert and Sullivan's "Patience" as an overture,' and the entr'acte was a novelty item, "Stepping on the Ivories," in which Mr. Arthur Eaton played a xylophone solo. On the Wurlitzer organ Mr. Emanuel Aarons, who also directed the orchestra, played "A Shady Tree," to which he had to respond to an encore, and the incidental music right through the entertainment showed careful selection.
