TjtE, YEAR'S FIGURES. . Some idea of tho iriagnitude of tho work performed by .the staff, of the Wellington Magistrate's Cqurt may be gained from a study of the following returns. In every item an increase will be noted when the figures for 1927 are compared with those for 192 G. During tho twelve months cn.lod 31st December last, .8056 sumruoi::; rind arrest cards were filed, in ' resj.r;-! of offences by 7483 men and 57." v.-.j-ik'h, while in. the preceding twelve months 7229 cards were filed, .6720 of which concerned men and 503 women. The figures relating to "civil business are appended, those for 1926 being given in parentheses:—Plants entered, 11,300 (9256); total amount sued for, £208,101 1£154,464); cases tried, 6279 (5101); total amount claimed in c.ses tried, £117,696 (£98,525); total iniount recovered, £102J311 (£83.488).
