CIRCUS HANDS ARRESTED
Certain petty thieving which coincided with the visit of Wirth rs Circus to places in the South Island resulted in a ueurch warrant being issued in Wellington yesterday The warrant was executed by Detective Jarrold and other detectives, and several travelling rugs, shirts, collars, and cloves were taken possession of by the police. Three of the circus hands—Robert Edward Butcher, aged 20, Robert Landford, aged 31, and Ernest Sydney Stewart, aged 30 —were arrested, and charged with having received property, knowing it to have been dishonestly obtained. The three accused appeared in the Magistrate's Court to-day and were remanded to 10th January. Two charges, involving property to the value of £21, were made againßt Landford, while Stewart was charged with receiving property valued at £2. Butcher, it was alleged, had received property valued at £2 4s 6d.
