BURNED ALIVE
LORRY CATCHES FIRE LOAD OF POWDER EXPLODES (United Press Association.—Copyright,) (Eeceived 6th January, 12.30 p.m.) LONDON, sth January. A horrible accident occurred at Hockliffe, Bedfordshire, where a motor-lorry skidded through a hedge -»d down a bank. The petrol tank exploded and set fire to the load on the lorry, consisting of six tons of phosphorous powder contained in shell cases/ The driver,: » man named Rivett, who was pinned down, screamed, "I'm burning alive." While tho rescuers were striving their hardest to rescue him the load exploded, injuring four people, including a man named Wagstaffe, who was set on fire and partially blinded. Rivett died an agonising death.
