LEISURELY PROGRESS

DETROIT TO WELLINGTON

(Received 15th October, 10 a.m.) DAVENPORT (Iowa), 14th Oct. Mr. Giles hopped ofi for the Pacific Coast after a week's delay .caused by a broken oil pump.- He is expected to reach San Francisco within 24 hours.

Giles, whose ultimate destination is said to be this city, is making somewhat leisurely progress. He was first reported from Detroit on 22nd July as announcing details of a flight to New Zealand to start from Detroit on 11th August. He said he was being financed by Mr. W. Rosewarne, a Detroit contractor, born in Australia., His airplane is named the "Hess Bluebird," ana is equipped with Wright engines. Mr. Giles also said that he was going to compete in the Dole flight to Honolulu. He has been reported at intervals since the end of July, and in lowa now has covered a thousand miles or so of his long journey of about ten thousand.
