IN STUDENTS' HOLIDAYS
VACATION CONCESSION
A new railway concession for scholars and students ia foreshadowed by the Minister of Eailways (the Hon. J. G. Coates) in his Railways Statement. Encouraged by the support afforded to the family ticket' concession, introduced two years ago for the express purpose of affording relief to large families desirous of travelling by tram," states the Minister (the Hon J. G. Coates), "I have now decided to further extent! the opportunities for cheap train transit by introducing a now concession upccially applicable to scholars and students attending our universities, colleges; and schools. Under the new arrangement thcexistlng faro concession of three-fourths ordinary passenger rates granted at vaca-tion-timo to school boarders only will be discontinued. In lieu of this, concession tickets at excursion rates will be granted to all students and.scholars in regular daily attendance at any of the unyersities, colleges, or schools throughout the Dominion. Tho concession however, will not apply to such studonts as may bo engaged in an occupation from which they receive a salary or other emolument. These vacation tickets will bo issuable at the • recognised holiday periods of tho education institutions to which they apply.. it is i n . tended to make the tickets available for eight weeks at Christmas-time and for four weeks at tho other two termholiday periods. "Frequent holiday changes during the years of study are generally recognised aa beneficial to tho health of both mind and body, ana it is hoped that the new concession, by encouraging travel will materially assist towards this end" '
