SHORT HOURS BETTER THAN NONE
The Mayor remarked again to-day that some employers were still discharging men, and that though he quite anpredated that circumstances might be difficult, he would still appeal to employers not to dispense with the services of any of their men if it were at all possible to avoid doing so. Some little time ago he had suggested that employers might meet the position by shortening hours intsead of by shortening staff, and in several instances that had been done. Shorter hours,'concluded Mr. Troup, were certainly better than no hours at all.
