"Down- the Stretch," a tlnlTersal-Jewel production, featuring Robert Agnew as Marty Kruger, a jockey, and pretty Marion Nixon ;is his sweetheart, was shown for the first time at the Queen's Theatre last evening. Devlin, a racehorse-owner, is known to be very cruel and Inconsiderate to his employees, mostly to liis jockeys, to whom he gives no food if they are the slightest bit overweight. It is into this man'i power that Marty Kruger falls, and the happenings which ensue provide an interesting plot. Thinking of nothing else but the thought of'being given the chance to ride a famous horse In the big race, Marty does all he is told to bring down his welsht. He is unsuccessful in the Dig race, however, but is given another chance by Devlin on one. condition, which the jociey accepts, although it means starting himself for quite a while la order to bring himself down to the correct weight: This nearly causeMarty's death, but with geat caro he gets back his health. The love interest Is cleverly interwoven into' the story. 'Supporting the main picture I* a gazette and comedy, while excellent incidental music is played by the Queen's select orchestra. The programme will be repeated this evening and again noxt week.
