NAPIERi 4th July,

Two fine days have allowed the flood waters around Napier and Hastings to rapidly subside, and in a short time should all be gone. -The roads between Napior ana 1 Hastings aro now open for traffic, hut two main roads aro still not negotiable on account of low stretcines being under water. The position at tho Boys' High School is viewed optimistically, and it is. hoped to rebpon next Tuesday.

Northwards' from Napier : the slips have been cleared arid the road to Wairoa is again open. A temporary bridge at Bissington, 120 feet long, was washed away by tho rivor nnd a crossing is being effected by a cable and cage. Slips on the side roads in the Waihori riding are numerous.
