"NOT A JOKE"

RUGBY V. LEAGUE

(By Telegraph.)

(Special to "The Evening Post v ") CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. When the Citizens' Unemployment Committee received a suggestion last week that funds might be raised by matching the leading Rugby team against the League champions, it was considered that the plan was impracticable, and the discussion showed that tho members were not disposed to treat it very seriously. The matter was discussed with some heat at last night's meeting of the Management Coinmitteo of the Rugby League. The secretary (Mr. S. M. Richardson) said that the League's suggestion regarding the match against tho Union had been ridiculed by tho Unemployment Committee. If it was genuinely out for funds it would have forwarded the application to the Rugby Union. It had been "one-eyed," and noglected its duty to tho unemployed. Tho committee had had no right to treat the matter in a jocular manner as reported in the newspapers. Mr. E. L. M'Keon said that if the match could have been arranged for Lancaster Park would not have held the crowd, and the funds might have benefited by £1500. The application should have been referred to the Rugby Union. It was decided that a letter of censure bo forwarded to tho Unemployment Committee.
