AUCKLAND TROTS
TO-MORROW'S EVENTS
(By Telegraph.)
(Special to "The Evening Post.")
AUCKLAND, This Day.
The Auckland Trotting Club's Winter Meeting concludes at Epsom on Wednesday, and at the time of writing the weather is anything but promising. As was the case on Saturday, big fields are engaged in all the events, and the racing should be most interesting:
The opening event is the Manukau Handicap, in which' there will- be a very big field. This class of race is invariably won from the limit, and this will probably happen to-morrow. Reremai, who has started only once and who then won easily, is bound to go well, and another on the limit with a chance is Master Huia. Daytime may go better than on Saturday. Of those further back, Mnrs. Admiral Lock, and Loch Moigh should be best. The favourites may be , Reremai, Mars, and Daytime.
The trotters in the Royal Handicap are practically the same as those which contested the Winter Handicap on Saturday. Appeal then won so easily that he is bound to command respect. Direct Action may be the best of the limit brigade, but if Great Change goes away right he would take a good deal of beating. Scan Trubhais, Nourraahal, and Tiimerlaue are all. gond sorts, and the summing up may be Great Change, Nourmahal, and Scan Trubhnis.
The chief event of the day, the Prince of Wales Handicap, will sec a fine field o£ classy pacers go to tho post. The only one on the limit who will get solid support is Hnrold Thorpe, but there are a lot of useful horses on 24 yards, and Machine Gun and Terence Dillon must go well. Billy Sea, off 12 yards, may bring oft a surprise, as he is a good stayer and the going will" be heavy. Cardinal Logan is bound to be going on at the end, as is also Peter Bingen. It is a very open race, and the favoured selections may be Harold Thorpe, Machine Gun, and Terence Dillon.
Considerable interest will centre in the At jinis. Memorial Cup, ns nil the owners will be anxious to win the line 100-guineu gold cup which goes with the winner's portion of the stake. The field will be a good one, and, with Great Karl on the limit, there will bo no loitering on-the trip Another on the front end is Luvan. It the track happened to be fine she would take no end of beating, as she is a brilliant mare, but a long-striding one and may not be suited with the track <f heavy. Rey Logan, Direct Wood, The bhrew Marshal Neil, Florent, and Respect will all have admirers. It is a very open race but backers will probably go for ,'p, JiarI ' JjU™". and Direct Wood Ihe smallest field of tho day will contest the Members' Handicap, for trotters m, y- rr °f thp f?V m shown on Saturday Ihe Tartar should again be in the money, \vnue_bister Beatrice may move up a little. Despite the possibility of their losing ground at the start, the selections may be Elzear, Trampfast, and The Tartar In the Liverpool Handicap many of those engaged will have raced earlier in the afternoon, and their showings then will affect the betting. Mars, Admiral Lock and Reremai should carry the money Ihe concluding event is tho Au Revoir Handicap, and all tho speed merchants are engaged. On the form showii in the mile the first day, Peter Bingen will be made favourite. Cardinal Logan, if h e misses the big race, should go* well.
