'.: The Scottish Harriers held a six and a quarter mile race on Saturday froni Miramar, to decide the teams for the Wellington Provincial Championships,: to, be--.held at: the Hutt Park -next Saturday. /The course, which was laid by Fv Silver, went from the car terminus up past the Chi-, nese garden, then-along the hills* embracing some excellent \croEß-country ground, the gag ; works, ■ where the old ffive-m'ile course*v^ras.■picked .up ahd^ followed back to, the .terminus. In spite''of' very inclement weather some very gooil times were recorded^ Some eighteen runners participated, and were dispatched in three' packs, six minutes separating the fast and slow pack. The finish resulted in a win for F. Silver, with S. Stevens see^. pnd; and W- Paytori third. To stimulate interest in this race,. prizes were doriatr: ed by the following: Ist prize, silver ciip,by Mr. W. O'Neill; 2nd prize, silver "medal, by Messrs; F; Archer and E. Whitehouse; 3rd prize, by Mr. F. Silver. S. Stevens, who ran att excellent race, was .very unlucky to lose'the r trail, but' in spite of this ho only finished two seconds ;i>ehind the club champion, F. Silver. After the race the club was: entertained at afternoon tea by Mr. W.J. Walter.
