MAGISTRATE'S COURT
Police cases in the Magistrate's Court to-day were dealt with by Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M. The theft of a bag of golf clubs, worth £3 from a private motor garage was admitted, by Charles M' Anally, a labourer, aged 49. M'Anally also pleaded guilty to stealing an oilskin coat worth £1 17s 6cl from the same place. Chief-Detective Ward, said that tho articles had been sold to a second-hand dealer. The accused, who has a number of previous convictions, was fined £3, iii default fourteen days' imprisonment, on each charge. Tho goods were ordered to lie returned to their owners. An attempt to commit suicide by cutting his throat and stabbing himself with a pocket-knife was admitted by John Attcnburrow Butler, a labourer, aged 56. Senior-Sergeant Lander said that the accused had been unemployed for some time, apart from a little wbrk he had obtained on the, wharf. In order to allow tho Probation Officer (Mr. T. P. Mills) to make inquirios. tho Magistrate remanded Butler to appear on Thursday morning for sentence. , ' | To ;iso of obscene languages in a restaurant resulted in Percival Guy Harpor, a bricklayer, aged 42, being fined £3, in default seven days' imprisonment. James Walter, alias Martin Carroll, alias Conn, alias Dixon, alias 1 Matthows, a labourer, aged 44, who pleaded not guilty to being an idlo and disorderly person, was remanded to appear tomorrow. For casting offensive matter, Lnchlan M'Kiunen, a retired man, nged 46, Was fined £2, in default seven days' imprisonment. Ho was convicted and discharged for drunkenness. A first offender for drunkenness, who spent the night in the cells, was convicted and discharged.
