Sir,—]• nday afternoon last witnessed what is practically the only public funclion ot the year in connection with university affairs in Wellington, namely, the presentation of diplomas to graduates. And what a ceremony it was! The ukase had gone forth that every student of the college must be shut out of the buildinsr not merely for the period of the speeches and tea party, but the students were excluded from the use of the library for the previous day and the subsequent day Graduation Day J827, will be remembered by the students for this feature alone. By the chosen few outsiders who Rained admission, it will bo remembered as a signal triumph for the spoil sports. Indeed, comment atter the proceedings was caustic enough in regard to the action of the college authorities, and, in particular; to the learned ex-student at whose instigation the council reversed the Professorial .Board s recommendation for a public ceremony m the Town Hall. As far as Friday's proceedings are concerned, it is abundantly clear that the authorities would have been better advi* this ™T n° function at a». rather than this mock ceremony, robbed of air value wo c the, .p,sclusl°n °f every student, and r worse still marred by the hypocrisy of nre' tending that the absence of half Pthe °*™"Vf? was due; no* t° a deliberate boy 32th June. ■ STUDEKT.
